Case Study: Muscatine CSD

From DIY Stress to SmartClock Relief

2019 marked a fresh start for Muscatine CSD. With new school buildings and thriving, happy students, Muscatine found one area holding them back  their payroll department was stuck in the dark ages of time collection.

Seeking to round out their district-wide improvements, Muscatine CSD adopted Frontline Time & Attendance to address their software needs.

However, Time & Attendance solved only half of Muscatine’s time collection problem. Even with class-leading software, the district struggled to implement effective clock-in stations. Their first attempt was re-purposing old computers with USB scanners as DIY time clocks.

While initially cost-effective, their computer-recycling approach ran into unplanned challenges with internet connectivity, unreliable scanners, random power loss, and frequent user error issues from unprepared staff members.

These issues directly burdened two departments: Payroll and IT.

Fast Facts

Problem:

Muscatine CSD struggled with their DIY time collection solution

Reasons

Implementation challenges, internet connectivity problems, unreliable scanners

Solution

Touchpoint’s seamless Frontline integration, NeverDown technology, and class-leading SmartClocks

Instead of attempting to troubleshoot, frustrated employees would simply walk away from malfunctioning computer kiosks without punching, and call IT or Payroll with their problems, creating more work for already stretched departments. IT staff were spending far too much time servicing old and unreliable technology, and Payroll had to manually track down every missed punch, not only for payroll accuracy but for state and federal compliance reporting as well. The consequences of inconsistent time collection were painful.

At the end of their rope, the Muscatine team received an email from Frontline’s hardware partner, Touchpoint, at just the right time.

After a quick needs assessment, Touchpoint representatives collaborated with district Payroll and IT leaders to plan the best Touchpoint devices to fit their district’s needs. Just two weeks later, Muscatine had fully-configured, scanning SmartClocks installed with integrated NeverDown backup tech installed, and were on their way to complete time collection harmony for the first time in years.

Muscatine’s journey from manual time collection to DIY tech to Touchpoint clocks is a common, but challenging path. The lives of both admin staff and hourly employees were ultimately made far easier choosing our SmartClock technology designed and built specifically for Frontline Time & Attendance.

Touchpoint devices made time collection an afterthought for Muscatine CSD  eliminating the chance for human error, adhering to ACA and benefits laws, and enabling time to be accurately reported at all times.
